The International energy agency estimated that 22% of all CO2 emissions are generated by the transport sector, whose 73% is generated by road transport. In Europe road transport produces 93% of the total CO2 emissions related to transport and slightly more than 19% of the total emissions of methane used in homes.
MIE – "Mobilità Intelligente Ecosostenibile" – aims to develop hardware/software methodologies, indicators and policies for mobility management to minimize the pollution environmental impact, improve the service provided to the users in terms of travelling times, and optimise consumption to accomplish movements.
The project will develop a model for mobility management through a monitoring and control system based on innovative technologies (wireless sensors with low power consumption, smartphone applications, intelligent traffic lights, entry barriers, computerized access, to optimize transport of people and goods both in cases of ordinary traffic and in extraordinary situations), and an innovative decision support system to sustain intelligent mobility policies with historical data models and real time data.
EICAS Automazione is a partner of the project: they will conceive, develop and prototype an anticollision and automatic guidance system for intelligent vehicles used as fleet for people and freight transport.
MIE is a project funded by MIUR as part of the development of the Technological National Clusters.
